Hi, I'm so happy you are here!
I'm a coach who uses a powerful methodology called Psychodrama.
I believe you are able to create the experience of life that you want. I have confidence in your strengths, hopes, timing, difficult emotions, and in the good that wants to unfold for you.
To me, it's a privilege to witness your process and ask the powerful questions so you can find your way.
Certification in Psychodrama required extensive coursework in therapy and 800+ hours of training. I also obtained coach certification from CTI and the ICF, an MA in Conflict, yoga teacher training, and training in Appreciative Inquiry (which builds from what is working,) and I incorporate somatic awareness and guided meditation methods. I have coached and trained over 1,000 professionals in many different industries over the last twenty years.

I am right there with you when it comes to healing in order to create a better future. Trauma can result from "too much, all at once," or "too little, over too long." Early attachment trauma can happen even with good parents. In my first decades, I felt self-hatred, depression, loneliness and isolation, even if love was being offered. Talk therapy was interesting, but with Psychodrama I began to rework my dysfunctional wiring and recover my intrinsic self. An internal sense of well-being became possible. My wish now is that every child, including your inner child, feels loved.
If Birdsong feels like a good context for you to figure out how to get your needs met for healing and change, I welcome you to sign up for a first meeting. It's important to feel a good connection with your coach, so this is a chance to see if we fit. Don't stop looking until you find the guide that's right for this moment of your life. My sessions are on zoom, although you are welcome to travel; I currently live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
“My experience working with Atieno has been profound and life-changing. I was embroiled in an intense conflict and wanted someone to help me keep my head above water. I’ve become much more effective, with new skills that let me maintain my balance in the face of huge passions (mine and others’!) In every session she offers some insight that helps me unlock something important and has given me practical tools. As Atieno helped me explore, I began making some shifts. I started feeling lighter, more flexible and balanced.”
“You played an integral role in helping me develop better coping and conflict resolution skills during a very dark, intense chapter of my life, and I am so grateful. Truthfully, my relationships with myself, [X], and other people in my life have been amazing and so much more fulfilling and compassionate since then, largely because of your guidance. THANK YOU AGAIN!”
“I am so grateful! Atieno was able to help me clearly discern the next steps – this was hugely helpful. She was both affirming and prepared to say the difficult things I needed to hear. I really appreciate this about her coaching. She is a great resource, too, in terms of her knowledge of different approaches to dealing with all sorts of life challenges. Finally, I must say how much appreciated how REAL she is.”
“I worked with Atieno in 2014 for 8 months, and she was incredible. She really listened which was deeply healing. She patiently asked questions to help me get underneath my own story about myself or a situation, never judging, always supportive, while not afraid to show tough love and tell me how it is. Most of all, I liked that she gave me tasks or objectives at the end of each call to work on between sessions. This created accountability and made me feel empowered to take control of my own well being. I would definitely work with her again.”

“I am very thankful – Atieno is a gem. At the end of every session I am left feeling confident and clear.”

“I learned quite a bit about myself and some techniques for dealing with personality traits I never recognized as defense mechanisms before. I really liked Atieno’s enthusiasm and outgoing style more than anything else.”
“Atieno’s coaching has helped me overcome personal blocks and learn the trick to not “getting in my own way.” She is extremely empathetic and helps her clients cut through to their core issues. I came to her at a point when I was flat out confused about my path. Her coaching has helped me set boundaries and define issues in a way that helped me move forward.”
Monica S., Washington DC
“I learned a lot about myself and how to use what I thought were weaknesses as strengths to tackle difficult work dynamics. I highly recommend Atieno’s coaching.”
“There was a remarkable absence of the buzzwords that can be so typical of consultants. This was just people getting things done in straightforward language.”
